Ho Chi Minh City’s consumer price index (CPI) rose by 0.22 percent in August over the previous month and 4.06 percent compared with the beginning of the year.

According to the city’s Statistics Office, in the first eight months of this year, the CPI registered an average monthly increase of 0.50 percent in comparison with the rise for the same period last year of 2.27 percent.

Commodities saw the highest price rise including housing-electricity-water-fuel with 1.08 percent and transport-post-telecommunications services, 1.10 percent.

Garment-headwear-footwear and household equipment and utensils saw a slight increase of 0.74 percent.

Foodstuff prices slightly decreased with cattle meat falling by 1.23 percent, poultry, 0.75 percent, seafood, 0.46 percent and vegetables, 1.43 percent.

However, processed meat rose by 0.48 percent, eggs, 0.51 percent, processed seafood, 1.36 percent and fruit, 0.73 percent./.
