HCM City (VNA) - TheSourcing Fair for Supporting Industry with Buyers that is underway in Ho Chi Minh City seeks to enhance supplychain linkages in supporting industries, enhance direct connections betweenforeign and other manufacturing firms and Vietnamese parts suppliers.

Nguyen Phuong Dong, deputy director of the city Department ofIndustry and Trade, said the fair has attracted 26 foreign manufacturingcompanies such as Samsung, Daeyong Harness, GST Vietnam, Backer Heating, Minamida Vietnam, Hanel PT,  Daeyong Vina, Bosch,Nipro, Panasonic, and Datalogic Vietnam.

They aredisplaying more than 220 component and part clusters used in the electronics,mechanical, automation, aviation, auto, and medical fields and seekingsuppliers for those parts, he said.

More than70 Vietnamese parts manufacturers in HCM City and elsewhere are also takingpart and around 300 business-to-business meetings have been arranged between them andbuyers, he said.

The SFSwill also feature a seminar on “Market opportunities for supportingmanufacturing industries” on September12 and a study tour of Japanese-owned Semitec Electronic Vietnam Co, Ltd tohelp local parts makers learn about 5S and Kaizen models.

Dong said SFS was held for the first time lastyear with 17 foreign companies in the automobile, electronics and mechanicalsectors taking part and linking up with 80 Vietnamese supporting industryenterprises.

His department organises the annual fair as part of its efforts to implement Decision2869 of the city People’s Committee this year on the supporting industry developmentprogramme, he said.

The expois meant to help parts vendors tie up with manufacturing enterprises, helpingincrease the rate of local parts in products made in Vietnam, he said.

Ngo Khai Hoan, deputy dorector of the Ministry ofIndustry and Trade’s Industry Agency, hailed the department’s efforts to linkparts suppliers with product manufacturers.

“SFS isconsidered a very crucial activity to connect businesses and boost supportingindustry growth,” he said, adding that it helps local parts makersunderstand the needs of foreign manufacturers and meet their demands, andgradually participate in the global value chain.

Organisedby the city Department of Industry and Trade, the Saigon Hi-TechPark and the HCM City Export Processing and Industrial Zones Authority, the two-day event, which is held at Convention Centre 272, opened on September 11./.
