HCM City holds fifth emulation congress

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked Ho Chi Minh City to fulfill its 2010 socio-economic development targets, as part of the city’s next five-year emulation campaign.

When addressing the fifth congress of HCMC’s patriotic emulation movement on June 14, to review its performance, commendations and exceptional individuals over the past five years, PM Dung asked the city to focus on holding Party congresses at all levels before the 11 th National Party Congress.

The city should also strive to tap all its resources to create a socio-economic breakthrough and maintain its key role as the country’s socio-economic power house.

The PM also praised the city for what it has achieved and the individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the emulation campaign over the past five years.

He praised HCM City ’s role and responsibility and its contribution to the country’s achievements, saying that the city is always the driving force behind the country’s socio-economic development.

Over the past five years, the city has made up 30 percent of the State’s budget, nearly 30 percent of national industrial production value and has posted the highest GDP growth rate in the country, 11 percent during the 2006-2010 period.

The city has also led the way in terms of attracting.

On the occasion, PM Dung presented the city with a government flag to recognise its achievements in the 2009 emulation campaign./.
