The 2012 Asian Muay Thai Championships will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from July 7-14, gathering fighters from nearly 20 countries and territories around the region.
The event is co-organised by the General Department of Physical Training and Sports and the HCM City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said Mai Ba Hung, the municipal department’s Deputy Director, on June 28.
The Asian Muay Federation has entrusted the task to HCM City , which successfully hosted the third Asian Indoor Games and has held numerous international Muay tournaments in the past, said Hung.
Hung said the preparations for the tournament have almost been completed.
Muay Thai kickboxing, commonly known as Muay, is a traditional martial art from Thailand, in which the fighters use their whole bodies to throw, punch and kick their rivals into submission.-VNA
