HCM City (VNA) - The first International Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS)/Sensors Conference took place in Ho Chi Minh City on September 27.

Domestic and foreign experts discussed the application of MEMS in building a smart city and new technologies related to the field, such as the application of the sensor system in traffic control in Japan, energy integration for Internet of Thing (IoT) in Australia, and the application of MEMS in biomedicine in the Republic of Korea, among others.

Le Hoai Quoc, Head of the Sai Gon High-tech Park (SHTP) Management Board, said the event aims to introduce the city’s smart city building programme to the world. It also provides an opportunity for Vietnamese scientists and businesspeople to get access to new technologies and learn international experience in applying MEMS in building a smart city, thus customising it for Vietnam.

The municipal People’s Committee has assigned SHTP to implement a programme to develop the semiconductor industry from 2017-2020 with a vision through 2030, he said.

The programme will focus on training MEMS workforce, learning international experience in MEMS application in building a smart city, and developing domestic MEMS products.

International cooperation will also be strengthened in this field to facilitate the research work.

Ngo Vo Ke Thanh, Director of the SHTP Research and Development Centre, said the centre has cooperated with the Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City to develop MEMS programmes.-VNA
