HCM City leader welcomes President of Global Summit of Women

HCM City (VNA) – Vice Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Vo Thi Dung on September 27 hosted a reception for President of the Global Summit of Women (GSW) Irene Natividad who is paying a working visit to Vietnam.

The municipal Party official lauded Irene Natividad’s role in promoting gender equality and enhancing women’s position in modern society.

She wished the GSW in 2018 will be successful and become an important forum to connect women around the world, contributing to joint efforts to ensure gender equality and women’s progress.

Dung affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City women have played an increasingly considerable role in socio-economic activities. They are becoming deeper involved in politics with more women holding important position in the administration or becoming successful entrepreneurs.

For her part, Irene Natividad stressed that women are holding the key to solve many outstanding issues, thus, they need to bolster cross-border cooperation to achieve gender equality and uphold values of women in the modern world.

She spoke highly of HCM City’s efforts to stimulate innovation and enhance women’s role in the city’s dynamic development.

She took the occasion to invite Dung to attend the GSW 2018 in Australia to share experience with foreign female leaders in promoting gender equality.

Following her working trip to Ho Chi Minh City, the GSW President is scheduled to attend the ongoing second APEC Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy (PPWE 2) in Hue city, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.-VNA
