Nearly 10 waste treatment plants under construction in Ho Chi Minh City will be put into operation as of 2010, said the municipal Environment and Natural Resources Department.

These plants, according to the Department, are expected to recycle or reuse 6,000 tonnes of waste per day in the city.

They include a compost fertiliser plant that reuses organic refuse with a daily capacity to recycle 500 tonnes of waste, by the Vietnam Waste Solutions Company, and another such plant with a daily capacity of 600 tonnes in the first stage. Both of them are expected to operate next year.

Another compost plant by the Tam Sinh Nghia Ltd. Co. will be able to divert 1,000 tonnes of waste per day when operational in 2011 and a solid waste treatment and recycling plant by the Thanh Cong Company applying Seraphin technology will process 500 tonnes of solid waste per day when operational in 2012.

Rubbish-fuelled power plants by the Keppel Seghers Engineering Company and by the IEE Corp will be able to treat between 1,000 and 2,000 tonnes of waste per day each and will be put into operation in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
