A ceremony was held in HCM City on Nov. 30 to celebrate the 40 th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Denmark diplomatic ties, in the presence of Danish Crown Prince Frederik.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan said Denmark was one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam , when the country was staging out a resistance war against US aggressors.

Denmark has provided great support for Vietnam ’s past struggle for national independence as well as in national construction and development, Quan said.

Quan highlighted the strong potential for cooperation between Denmark and Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City in particular, expressing his hope that Crown Prince Frederik’s visit to Vietnam would promote the bilateral relationship and further strengthen cooperation in trade, development cooperation, culture, education, environment, response to climate change and sustainable growth.

At the meeting, Crown Prince Frederik expressed his admiration for Vietnam ’s socio-economic development achievements and said Denmark is proud to be a fellow traveller of the Vietnamese people.

The Crown Prince said the anniversary marks a significant milestone in relations between the two countries, and a favourable opportunity for the two sides’ businesses to foster cooperation and seek partners.

In the framework of the ceremony, five workshops focusing on corporate social responsibility, education, food safety, water industry and green growth were also organised, with the participation of a large number of enterprises and relevant agencies of the two countries.

On the same day, Prince Frederik visited a photo exhibition named “A city of bicycles” and joined a launch ceremony for the Vietnamese-English bilingual book, “Popo looks for a friend”, the latest publication in the Vietnam –Denmark children’s book project./.
