HCM City: Post-Tet labour market remains stable

More than 90 percent of workers at processing and industrial parks in Ho Chi Minh City have returned to work after the Lunar New Year (Tet) holidays.

This year, the number of workers who changed their jobs after the longest festival decreased significantly, said the management board of the HCM City Export Processing and Industrial Zone Authority (Hepza).

The board attributed the situation to businesses’ preferential policies towards labourers and economic difficulties that tie workers with their original jobs to enjoy bonuses and allowances.

According to Tran Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Centre for Labour Market Information and Human Resource Forecast under the municipal Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, labour shortage is expected to stand at only 5 percent as most of workers want to pursue a stable job.

Several companies in Linh Trung 1 and Tan Thuan processing zones have resumed their operation after the nine-day festival with the number of orders on the increase, thus making workers confident about their current job stability.

At the same time, the labour recruitment market is busy with many businesses registering to hire a large number of employees to fulfill their demands for production expansion, said Nguyen Van Be, President of the Business Association of Industrial Parks in HCM City.

Tuan added that enterprises are expected to recruit up to 40,000 labourers in February and March, noting human resources in garment and textile, footwear, plastics-packing, food processing and construction are forecast to edge up by 30 percent against February.

Each business in the Linh Trung 1, 2 and Tan Thuan processing zones is seeking more than 3,000 labourers, while others in the Vinh Loc, Tan Tao and Hiep Phuc industrial zones needs about 100 each.-VNA
