HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City reported 4,690 criminal offence cases in the past 11 months, down 14 percent as compared to the same period last year, said head of the municipal Public Security Department’s social crime investigation division Le Ngoc Phuong.

At a working session with Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Dinh La Thang on November 28, Phuong said the police units uncovered 3,304 cases and arrested 3,570 offenders during the period.

In the near future, the municipal police department plans to pilot a criminal police task force who are in charge of four districts in the city.

After two years, the police will make a report on the model to submit to the Ministry of Public Security for possible expansion in the whole city.

Speaking at the event, Thang urged the city’s police department to quickly deploy the plan to gradually replace the current model, which has exposed shortcomings due to loose coordination among concerned units.

He noted that street crimes have aroused public concerns so the police need to eliminate in a bid to build a city of safety, civilisation, modernity and friendliness.

The city’s leader also asked the municipal police department to upgrade working facilities and provide more allowance and advanced equipment for its task force.-VNA
