In the nine-month period, the index was up 5.72 percent compared to 4.29 percent in the same period last year, the municipal Statistics Office reported.
Expenses for education saw the highest rise - up 13.34 percent for tuition fees for tertiary education and vocational training.
Along the same lines, college fees rose from 150,000 VND to 180,000 VND per month, while the level at universities jumped from 180,000 VND to 240,000 VND per month.
The addition of 1,000 VND per litre to the price of petroleum starting Aug. 30 drove transport-post-telecommunications services up 2.16 percent.
Other commodities that experienced increases include food, 1.22 percent, and beverages and tobacco, 1.18 percent.
Meanwhile, the prices of medicine and health care services saw no change./.
