HCM City sends over 1,000 addicts to detoxification centres

HCM City authorities have sent 1,209 homeless drug addicts to detoxification centres during a campaign to remove all drug addicts from the city’s streets.
HCM City authorities have sent 1,209 homeless drug addicts todetoxification centres during a campaign to remove all drug addicts fromthe city’s streets.

At a December 18meeting to review the first 12 days of the campaign, the municipalPeople’s Committee reported that they also sent 879 drug addicts who areadolescents, pregnant women or with stable accommodation, back to theirhometown.

According to deputy director of themunicipal police department Major General Phan Anh Minh, the policedetected two wanted criminals among the drug addicts.

The city launched the campaign early this month to ensure securityand order for the city ahead of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.-VNA
