HCM City, St. Petersburg hold substantial cooperation potential

Moscow (VNA) – Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan andMayor of Russia’s St. Petersburg city Georgy Poltavchenko shared the view thatsmart city building and cyber security system establishment are areas withcooperation potential between the two cities.

During their talksin St. Petersburg on May 17, Nhan suggested the two sides step up trade andinvestment ties, which, he said, have yet to reflect the potential of thecities.

He urged the twocities to work together to remove barrier on distance to their cultural andeconomic links, suggesting the establishment of a HCM City economic-culturalcooperation centre in St. Petersburg.

As a young citywith dynamic development and quality human resources, HCM City wishes toimprove the efficiency of cooperative ties with Russia localities and standsready to work with Russian businesses, including those from St. Petersburg,Nhan said.

Mentioning thefriendship between Vietnam and Russia, the official highlighted fruitful cooperationin education and training. He said Russia has helped Vietnam train thousands ofofficials and experts.

For his part,Poltavchenko lauded the HCM City delegation’s visit, which takes place on theoccasion of the 95th anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh’sfirst visit to Russia.

He said HCM Cityand St. Petersburg have potential for cooperation and suggested both sides joinhands in infrastructure construction, medicine and pharmacy, water supply andtreatment and IT, as well as traditional cooperation spheres likescience-technology and education.

St. Petersburg hasmany businesses with experience and high technologies in water treatment, hesaid, adding that the city is willing to share experience and technologies withHCM City and help the locality train human resources in this realm.

The mayorsuggested the two cities enhance collaboration between young people.

St. Petersburg’sauthorities and people hope to develop long-term and effective partnershipswith Vietnam and HCM City in particular, he said, adding that the two sideswill work together to establish economic-cultural cooperation centres in thecities.

Following thetalks, Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’ Committee Le Thanh Liem and Poltavchenkosigned a roadmap on bilateral cooperation for 2018-2020, focusing on watermanagement, education and tourism.

The same day, Nhanand his entourage visited Pronton centre in St. Petersburg, a leading agency inhigh-tech diagnosis and radiation therapy.-VNA

Vietnam, Italy agree on new cooperation directions

Both sides agreed to facilitate market access for key export products, and prioritise cooperation in investment attraction and technology transfer in emerging and strategic sectors such as new energy, renewable energy and automation, while continuing to strengthen existing cooperation in textiles, footwear, climate change response, electronics, culture and tourism.

Vietnam, China enhance public security ties
