The second conference for overseas Vietnamese (OV) will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from Sept. 26-30.
Following the plenary session on the morning of Sept. 27, four separate debates will get underway. They will cover the topics on integration and economic development issues; cultural identity and national traditions; overseas Vietnamese academics with industrialisation and modernisation and overseas entrepreneurs working for the future of communities and country.
According to the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, the conference will be attended by around 1,000 delegates, many of them bring leaders from various ministries, sectors and localities, representatives from overseas representative offices and the Associations for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese (ALOV).
Participants will debate the development trend of OV communities and review the results of the first conference for OVs in November 2009 as well as the effects of the Party and State’s policies on OVs.
This also offers a chance to mobilise resources from OVs to support national industrialisation and modernisation.
There are currently around more than 4.5 million Vietnamese living in over 100 countries and territories abroad, including more than 400,000 specialists working in research institutes and universities.
Overseas remittances amounted to more than 9.4 billion USD in 2011 and so far this year the figure has reached 6 billion USD.
In Vietnam there are around 2,000 OV-invested projects with a total investment of around 6 billion USD.-VNA
