A high-ranking delegation from Ho Chi Minh City paid a working visit to Germany from July 11-13 in a bid to attract more investment from Germany and the EU to the country’s economic hub.

During a meeting with Berlin authorities, the delegation, led by Vice Secretary of the municipal Party’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, briefed the host on HCM City’s socio-economic achievements, as well as its potential and preferential treatment to investors from in and outside of the country.

The party official spoke highly of the effective cooperation with Germany in building an underground railway line, Vietnam-Germany University and German House, as well as the effective implementation of other projects in the city.

She underscored the role of HCM City as Vietnam’s economic spearhead, and a promising market for investor, calling for more investment from Berlin and Germany.

The delegation also took part in the opening ceremony of the Handmade in Vietnam-Berlin 2013 fair.

During a meeting with officials of the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany, Vice Secretary Ha said Germany is a huge consumer market, and an important gateway for Vietnamese goods to enter the EU.

She urged the embassy to continue developing the two countries’ strategic partnership, and attach more importance to HCM City, so as to attract more investment to the locality and to Vietnam.

During the delegation’s stay in Germany, it attended a press conference on the Vietnam Festival that is to be held in Brandenburg state’s Potsdam city in August, and laid wreaths at the statues of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in Alexander Square.-VNA
