HCM City (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh City Book Street will be officially opened on Nguyen Van Binh street, District 1, on January 9.

The street is a fixed and long-term book-themed space with a view to promoting the reading habit, Le Thai Hy – Director of the municipal Department of Information and Communications – said on January 6.

The 144-metre pedestrian street will feature 20 book stalls and space for discussions and exchanges among publishers, authors and readers.

Areas will be zoned for book and newspaper exhibitions and the exchange of rare publications.

The street will also offer two corners for those who want to read books and enjoy coffee concurrently, Hy said.

To encourage the reading habit among young children, a playground will be available on the street every weekend and holiday with a variety of activities such as story telling contests, figurine painting and book illustration drawing, he added.

The book street is co-organised by the Information and Communications Department and the southern office of the Vietnam Publishers’ Association.-VNA
