HCM City voters laud vote of confidence results

Voters in Ho Chi Minh City have applauded the first ever vote of confidence recently undertaken by the NA to assess the performance of 47 officials elected or approved by the NA.
Voters in Ho Chi Minh City have applauded the first ever vote of confidence recently undertaken by the National Assembly (NA) to assess the performance of 47 officials elected or approved by the NA.

They made the praise during a meeting with President Truong Tan Sang in Ho Chi Minh City on June 24 on the outcomes of the 13th legislature’s fifth session which wrapped up in Hanoi three days earlier.

Pham Van Lai from District 1 lauded the success of the vote of confidence, saying this will help officials know how to correct their shortcomings for better future performance.

Sharing the same view, Nguyen Huu Chau added that the confidence vote should be classified into two levels of confidence and non-confidence in stead of three degrees of high confidence, confidence, and low confidence as already conducted.

A majority of participating voters also spoke highly of thorough discussions by NA deputies on the amendments to the 1992 Constitution and the revised Land Law. However, they voiced their expectation that the NA will soon approve the revised Land Law as this is the most practical issue for people.

Regarding the fight against corruption and wastefulness, voter Vu Trong Binh from District 3 stressed the urgent need to thoroughly up-root this phenomenon.

In reply, President Sang called on voters to push up monitoring to assess the performance of what ministers have promised.

Admitting the combat against corruption and wastefulness is of critical importance, the President asked voters to play more active roles in every question and answer session held by the NA to spotlight the remaining concerns among citizens.

In the time to come, the strengthened operation of the Central Steering Committee on Corruption Prevention and Fight as well as the enhancement of departments for internal affairs at local levels are hoped to bring in positive moves in the fight, the State leader added.

Touching upon the issue of salary reform, President Sang said that an absolute reform of wage needs to go hand in hand with the restructuring of the administrative apparatus and political system.

The increase of the minimum wage will be carried out on July 1 despite budget difficulties, the President elaborated.

President Sang also answered voters’ questions on wastefulness in organising festivals, policies for those who rendered service during the war, and measures to remove difficulties for enterprises.-VNA
