Overseas arrivals to Ho Chi Minh City rose above 2.8 million in the first nine months of the year, up 3 percent from the same period in 2012.

According to the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the number of foreign visitors to the city in the period fulfilled 68 percent of its yearly target of 4.1 million.

The city’s nine-month tourism revenue reached an estimated 63 trillion VND (3 billion USD), a year-on-year increase of 20 percent, and 77 percent of this year’s target.

The encouraging outcome was attributed to the city’s tourism stimulus programme, which started in early April. Sale promotion months being held from September to December 2013 are also predicted to have a positive effect.-VNA
