HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City calls on Japanese businesses to step up investments in industry, agriculture and tourism in the southern metropolis, said Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Huynh Cach Mang.

He made the appeal at a reception for former Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Fukuda Hiroshi and leaders of Sanyo Group in the city on May 23.

In the context of the fourth industrial revolution, the city has prioritised cutting-edge technologies in mechanics, electricity-electrics, chemicals-plastics and food processing, he said.

In the field of agriculture, the locality has focused on high-tech agriculture and scientific and technological application in production and farm produce quality improvement.

Of note, tourism is one of the promising sectors of HCM City, he said, adding that in 2017, the city welcomed more than 6 million foreign visitors, including some 400,000 from Japan.

HCM City wishes that Japanese enterprises will make long-term investment in the locality on the basis of mutual trust , he said, pledging efforts to improve the local business for foreign firms’ effective operation.

For his part, Fukuda Hiroshi said Japanese businesses have seen Vietnam, especially HCM City, as an attractive investment destination.

Many of them have planned to study and seek investment opportunities in manufacturing, food processing and tourism in the city, according to the former ambassador.
Japanese investors want to share experience and technologies with Vietnam to help the country improve production quality and generate more jobs for local labourers, he said.-VNA
