Head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Vuong Dinh Hue has hailed Ho Chi Minh City’s economic growth as a valuable example for other localities in terms of management and policymaking.

At a working session with the city’s authorities on January 3 to review the implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution 16 on HCM City’s development until 2020 and how to carry out the 2014 economic development plan, Hue noted that while the city failed to meet the yearly target of GDP growth rate for the year, the 9.3 percent it recorded in 2013 was 1.7 times the national figure. In addition, the city reported a 5.1 percent increase in Consumer Price Index, much lower than the national rate, which reflected good management, he said.

The Party official also lauded what the city has reaped in socio-economic and cultural fields between 2011 and 2013.

He asked the city to uphold its good work to achieve the target of becoming a major economic, financial, cultural, medical, education and science-technology hub of the country by 2020.

This year, the city will aim for a GDP growth of 9.5 – 10 percent and a 10 percent increase in exports turnover. The rate of poor households according to the new poverty line of 16 million VND (760 USD) a year is projected at 6.8 percent.-VNA
