Former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew has contracted an infection and is now on antibiotics, according to a statement from the Singaporean Prime Minister’s Office on March 17.

The 91-year-old former PM has been hospitalised since February 5 of this year, and is currently on life support at the intensive care unit in the Singapore General Hospital .

Doctors are closely monitoring his condition.

Lee Kuan Yew was the first Prime Minister of Singapore and the father of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

He served as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1990 and is widely credited with turning Singapore into one of the wealthiest economies in Asia over the past three decades.-VNA
