Dak Lak (VNA) – Heavy rain hit Buon Ma Thuot city and most districts and towns in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak on May 25.

The rain, the longest and heaviest shower since the beginning of the dry season in Dak Lak, watered 200,000 hectares of coffee trees and 21,000 hectares of pepper trees, which have faced prolonged drought.

It also helped reduce the risk of fire to thousands of hectares of forest.

The rain also helped ease shortages of daily water for locals and allows cultivation of 100,000 hectares of summer-autumn trees.

In the dry season, around 70,155 hectares of trees in Dak Lak lost between 30 and 70 percent in terms of output due to water shortages and over 6,700 hectares of trees were destroyed completely, mostly coffee trees, causing losses of 2,186 billion VND (96 million USD).-VNA
