Heavy rains and floods have caused severe damages on both humans and property in Vietnam ’s northern provinces.

As of July 30, flooding has claimed one life and injured three others in Yen Bai province. Nearly 100 houses and more than 760 hectares of rice and other crops have been destroyed. Property damage is estimated at about 5 billion VND.

Meanwhile, in Phu Tho province, many roads have been blocked due to landslides, causing difficulties for local people to travel.

Rains and floods have also blown off parts of many dykes and submerged houses and more than 210 hectares of rice and vegetables.

As the river water level continues rising, the provinces have directed their localities to keep a close watch on the developments of rains to actively carry out protective measures to deal with flooding and move households in dangerous areas to safe shelters.-VNA
