Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – The Vietnam Fatherland Front Ho Chi Minh City chapter organised a ceremony in the city on April 25 to launch the voluntary blood donation day, in response to an appeal by Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong.

Le Thanh Liem, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, expressed gratitude to the donor of the valuable fluid for their noble work. This helps treat patients and ensure the requirement of the national defence, security and ease the consequences of natural calamities, the official highlighted.

He called on the people on all the walks of life to join the movement, for the target of 280,000 donations this year.

Right after the ceremony, hundreds of city dwellers donated their blood.

Authorities of the country’s biggest city hope to see about 10,000 donors from now to the end of next month.

A similar activity was held in the central province of Nghe An the same day which expected to collect up to 400 blood units within April 25./.
