HCM City (VNA) – The starting point of the Ho Chi Minh Trail – Km Zero – in the central province of Nghe An’s Tan Ky district has been recognised as a special national relic.

The recognition was announced by the provincial People’s Committee Office on May 13.

Tan Ky People’s Committee was tasked with protecting and promoting the site, which is expected to become an attraction of local tourism.

The wartime legendary trail starts from Nghe An and runs through Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and ends in Binh Phuoc. It passes through areas of dense jungles, and served as a key artery supplying weapons, goods, food, military equipment and personnel from the North to the South during the country’s resistance war against the US.

Nearly 17,000km of the strategic trail helped transport weapons and soldiers to the battlefields, contributing to the success of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign in 1975 to liberate the south and reunite the country.

The ending point of the trail at Km No. 1200 in Chon Thanh district of the southern province of Binh Phuoc has also been named a special national relic.-VNA
