A group of 24 German tourists became the first New Year’s callers to Hoi An city, a world cultural heritage site in the central province of Quang Nam, on January 1.
The first visitors of the year, who are believed to bring good luck to the host according to Vietnamese tradition, were greeted with arts performances and gifts.
Just one day earlier, Quang Nam province welcomed the 1.6 millionth foreign tourist to the province. The lucky one, chosen by draw among a group of Japanese visitors, was Fujita Naechita, who came to Hoi An for the first time with his wife.
Quang Nam counted some 3.4 million tourist arrivals in 2013, including 1.6 million foreigners and 1.8 million domestic visitors, up by 19 percent and 22 percent from 2012, respectively.
Tourism revenue is estimated at 1.8 trillion VND (85.7 million USD), up 23.8 percent from a year earlier.
