Hong Kong’s environmental protection agency has approved a 200-megawatt offshore wind farm to the tune of 7 billion HK dollars (903 million USD).

The plant will become the biggest offshore wind plant ever built in Asia and is scheduled to operate before 2014.

Once it runs at full capacity, the project will produce an estimated 1 percent of Hong Kong ’s needed electricity.

Hong Kong has set a target of generating 1-2 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2012./.
