Many children have been admitted with diarrhoea, dengue, rubella, and respiratory diseases caused by the hot weather in the last few days, doctors at HCM City hospitals said.

Dr. Vu Quang Vinh, deputy head of the Paediatric Hospital No 2’s General Planning Office, said the number of diarrhoea inpatients has increased from 80-100 on normal days to 140 now.

Paediatric Hospital No. 1 has been admitting many children with petechial dengue everyday.

Dozens of women with babies in their arms have been crowding the hall in its respiratory ward for the last three days.
The hot weather has been conducive for the spread of respiratory diseases, especially bronchiolar inflammation.

According to Dr Tran Anh Tuan of the Paediatric Hospital No 2’s respiratory ward, parents often turn on air-conditioner for their sleeping children or allow them to drink ice water due to the hot weather, making them susceptible to respiratory diseases.

Dr. Le Bich Lien, deputy head of Paediatric Hospital No. 1, warned that children were likely to contract all kinds of diseases this month, especially hand, foot and mouth disease and petechial dengue.

Dr Tran Van Ngoc, head of the paediatric ward at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, said 10-20 children with rubella are being admitted daily./.
