Hue opens Perfume River bridge

On Aug. 31, Thua Thien-Hue authorities opened a new bridge over Huong (Perfume) River.

The Bach Ho (White Tiger) Bridge is 542.5 metres long including theapproach roads and 34.5 metres wide, with four lanes and sidewalks oneither side.

The five-span bridge also has six viewing-towers for people to relax and enjoy the river views.

Construction of the bridge began in December 2009, and cost 730 billion VND (nearly 35 million USD).

Nguyen Van Cao, chairman of the Thua Thien – Hue Province People'sCommittee, said the bridge will significantly contribute to theprovince's socio-economic development, especially tourism, and also easetraffic on the Phu Xuan Bridge, which is deteriorating after decades ofoperation.-VNA

Accordingly, the environmental protection tax on petrol (excluding ethanol), diesel, kerosene, mazut, and aviation fuel has been cut to 0 VND per litre. These products are also exempt from VAT declaration and payment, while still eligible for input VAT credit.
