Hanoi (VNA) – Earth Hour Ambassador Thuy Van and hundreds of workers from Hanoi City Power Corporation walked along main streets in downtown Hanoi on March 21 in response to Earth Hour 2017.

The walk was held by the Hanoi Power Corporation, a member of the Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN), to call on people to together save energy and protect the environment.

Addressing the event, EVN Hanoi Deputy Director General Nguyen Quang Trung said the Earth Hour campaign has won more support from Hanoians since it was first launched in the city. To arouse more enthusiasm from local residents, the EVN Hanoi has held more than 100 meetings at residential quarters, schools and state agencies to talk about saving power, he noted.

Trung added that over 3,000 banners have been placed at public locations while around 100,000 leaflets and 10,000 posters have been given away to raise public awareness on the matter.

The EVN Hanoi plans to switch lights off at public places for one hour from 20:30 to 21:30 on March 25 this year, the EVN Hanoi manager said.

Earth Hour Ambassador Thuy Van, who was second runner-up of Miss Vietnam 2008, spoke highly of the theme of Earth Hour this year – “Turn off the lights, light up the future”.

Even a small action by an individual like turning off electrical devices when they are not in use or reducing plastic use will greatly contribute to changing climate change, saving energy and protecting the environment, she stated.-VNA
