Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recommend that Vietnam give its utmost attention to the development of human resources qualified for its future nuclear power plant.

The IAEA experts described the human resources development work as “huge” in its importance and decisive in ensuring the plant operates successfully in discussions with Vietnamese experts on the second phase (2010-2013) of the country’s nuclear power plant infrastructure development plan in Hanoi on Dec. 4.

They pointed to the need for Vietnam to establish close coordination with the IAEA in the work and immediately send experts to overseas training courses on nuclear power to prepare for the running of the country’s first nuclear power plant.

The IAEA and Vietnamese experts touched upon 19 categories of infrastructural work needed to run nuclear power plant, including a legal framework, radioactive waste and safety, security, emergency response, human resources development, and environmental protection.

The experts agreed that Vietnam has already worked out a plan to develop the infrastructure of the nuclear power plant in the second phase in order to prepare for the launch of a bid on its nuclear power plant project in 2012-2013./.
