A group of 31 illegal Vietnamese migrants, who were detained following a recent raid by Russian police in Moscow, took a flight home on August 10.

They were among 600 Vietnamese people arrested during the July 31 raid, which targeted illegal migrants working at garment workshops in a market in the east of the capital. As many as 1,000 foreign workers were captured during the operation.

The remaining Vietnamese citizens will be deported back home as soon as all legal procedures are completed, according to Russia.

The timely return of the initial 31 people has been attributed to the rapid response of the Vietnamese embassy in Russia after learning about the incident.

The embassy has sent a working group to the temporary detention site to deal with any problems arising from the situation.

Over the last few days, the Vietnamese community in Russia has also sent voluntary translators and raised fund for these illegal migrants to return home safe and sound.-VNA
