The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) hosted a ceremony in Hanoi on Oct. 26 to confer the “For the Cause of Trade Union” insignia to Rie Vejs Kjeldgaard, Director of ILO Country Office for Vietnam.
It is the noblest award of VGCL to honour individuals for their contributions to the trade union cause.
Addressing the ceremony, Dang Ngoc Tung, VGCL President spoke highly of Kjeldgaard’s contributions to promoting and strengthening relations among social partners in Vietnam, including the trade union organisation.
Expressing close sentiment to the Vietnamese trade union organisation, Kjeldgaard said that experience acquired during her term of office in Vietnam is helpful to her in the new position.
Since 2008, Kjeldgaard of Danish nationality has contributed to institutional building, policymaking and enhancing capacity of Vietnam’s partners in the fields of labour – employment and social welfare.
Kjeldgaard will finish her tenure in Vietnam in November this year to undertake the position of Special Initiative Coordinator for Knowledge Management at the Geneva-based ILO headquarters this year./.
