The Internet-linked automatic climate stations (ACSs) using Austrian iMetos technology have helped a number of localities in Vietnam be well prepared for climate change and its aftermath.
The donations from the Austrian company, Pessl Instruments, have been serving on a trial basis in the northern provinces of Phu Tho, Lao Cai, and Ha Giang, Hanoi, and central Quang Tri province from April, 2013.
iMetos instruments have so far been used in more than 80 countries and territories around the world to monitor and deliver microclimate warnings to support climate change adaptation in agriculture and living.
During its trial operation, the iMetos weather station installed in the Hoang Lien National Park in Lao Cai has collected data on solar radiation, rainfall, moisture, and wind speed and delivered early warnings about unfavourable weather patterns, like forest fire and drought in the locality, heard a seminar reviewing the experimental use of this universal device in Vietnam.
The seminar was held in the northern province of Phu Tho on July 23 by the Institute for Resources, Environment and Community development (RECO), the Institute for Water and Environment (IWE), and the Phu Tho Union of Science and Technology Associations.
IMETOS Vietnam Project Manager Mai Quang Vinh said the iMETOS technology ACSs along with others can serve as efficient instruments to aid Vietnam in adapting to climate change and mitigating natural disaster consequences, thus making it easier for agricultural production in the country.-VNA
