A well-known musical band of India, Shwaas, is performing on January 8 night as part of activities to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-India diplomatic relations.

The performance also aims to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and India and the 20 years of dialogue relations between ASEAN and India, said Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Ranjit Rae.

The band plays a mix of classical Indian music with a bit of Western jazz, blues and folk thrown in, backed by an electric bass, violin and synthesiser as well as a Western-style drum kit.

At its performances in Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and Da Nang last week, it focused on India’s indigenous instrumental and vocal music, selecting well-known musical pieces from the country’s various regions, to delight the audience.

Shawaas’s trip to Vietnam was sponsored by the Indian Cultural Exchange Council of the Indian Government./.VNA
