The Indian Buddhist festival is well underway in Ho Chi Minh City with a series of activities as part of the Indian cultural week from March 5-15.
Beginning on March 7, the four-day festival in Pho Quang and Vinh Nghiem pagodas will convey a message of non-violence and thoughtful life philosophy via a photo exhibition.
Prayers, sand paintings and sculpture contests are among other note-worthy events.
Indian Buddhist monks and nuns will perform Cham dances with masks and outfits unique to the religion’s Mahayana sect. Their Vietnamese peers will also stage dances, prayers and meditation.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Manh Ha said the event offers a chance to learn more about Indian traditions, customs and culture.
It will help raise mutual understanding of both Vietnamese and Indian people, thereby tightening their friendship and cooperation, he added.-VNA
