Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil arrived in Phnom Penh on September 13, beginning her six-day state visit to Cambodia at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni.

The visit aims to inquire into and discuss with Cambodian leaders trade, investment and security issues between the two countries, President Patil told reporters immediately after landing in Phnom Penh .

India wants to increase trade and investment with Cambodia , which are seen as lower than the two countries’ potential.

According to the press release from the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, President Patil will be received in a Royal Audience by King Norodom Sihamoni at the Royal Palace on September 14.

Patil will respectfully receive courtesy calls by Senate President Chea Sim, National Assembly President Heng Samrin and Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Patil and Hun Sen will preside over the signing ceremony of two documents, the Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation between the National Auditing Authority of Cambodia and the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, and the agreement for Stung Tasal Water Resource Development Project (Phase 2) between the Cambodian government and the Export-Import Bank of India, the press release said.

Patil will also visit Angkor Wat temples and preside over a ground-breaking ceremony for Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC) Asian Traditional Textiles Museum .

Two-way trade between Cambodia and India reached only 50 million USD in 2009. India ’s exports to Cambodia were mainly pharmaceuticals, fibres and machinery./.
