The President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee (VFFCC) Huynh Dam, welcomed Professor Geetesh Sharma, the President of the India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee in the state of West Bengal, in Hanoi on May 23.

Dam thanked his guest for taking the time to visit, saying that his trip will strengthen friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and India .

He thanked the Indian people for their support to Vietnam during their struggles for independence in the past as well as during the country’s current period of development.

Professor Sharma replied by saying that ever since it was set up in 1972, the India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee in West Bengal has supported Vietnam in many different ways and worked to boost friendship and solidarity between the Indian and Vietnamese people.

He added that in the future the VFFCC will step up its efforts to foster bilateral ties.

Later the same day, the Indian Embassy in Hanoi, in coordination with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations and the Vietnam-India Friendship Association, held a ceremony to launch a book entitled “Indian Cultural Vestiges in Vietnam” written by Professor Geetesh Sharma.

The book, which focuses on aspects of Indo-Vietnamese cultural links over 2,000 years, was translated into Vietnamese and published in Ho Chi Minh City.-VNA
