Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Preeti Saran affirmed the two countries’ relations are developing sounder than ever in all fields at a get-together marking her country’s 67 th Independence Day in Hanoi on August 15.
She expressed hope that when India’s new government runs, more visit exchanges at the highest political level will be organised, which is likely to start with a visit to Vietnam by the Indian Minister of External Affairs in late August.
The minister is scheduled to hold talks with his Vietnamese counterpart and co-chair the third Roundtable of the ASEAN-India Network of Think Tanks, and a conference of Indian Ambassadors, she said.
The ambassador expressed her high expectations of a surprising growth in tourism and people-to-people exchange between the two countries with the launch of a direct air route this November.
At the event, Minister-Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Giang Seo Phu extended congratulations to Indian people, saying that the two countries are getting closer, especially since July 2007 when they set up their strategic partnership.
India is now one of the 10 largest strategic trade partners of Vietnam. Bilateral cooperation in security, defence, science-technology, education-training and culture are being stepped up, bringing about practical benefits to both sides./.
