Indonesia’s Air force will put a new squadron of F16 jet fighters into use at the Roesmin Nurjadin Air Base in Pekanbaru, Riau province in 2014, Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Putu Dunia has said.

According to Dunia, the fighter jet fleet will include 24 new US-made F16 planes equipped with modern equipment and weapons.

The squadron is expected to contribute to enhancing aviation security and protecting the country’s territorial sovereignty, especially in border areas, he stressed.

In addition, the Indonesian’s air force will also be equipped with T50 jet fighters, which are produced by the Republic of Korea using US technology. The force now has only one F16 squadron at the Iswahyudi Air Force Base in East Java, Dunia noted.-VNA
