Indonesia, Australia boost defence, diplomatic ties
The defence and foreign ministers of Indonesia and Australia met in a
2+2 dialogue in Jakarta, Indonesia on April 3, to seek ways to
foster bilateral relationship, military cooperation, disaster management
and people exchange.

They also touched on international and regional issues of mutual concern, cooperation in peacekeeping missions, joint military drills, natural disaster management and mitigation, and the Australia-Indonesia Annual Defence Strategic Dialogue (ADSD).
At a joint briefing after the dialogue, Indonesian Foreign Ministry Marty Natalegawa said the meeting refected the two countries’ specific and comprehensive cooperation from the state level down to ministerial levels.
For his part, Australian Defence MinisterBob Carr valued Indonesia as one of Australia’s top strategic partners, affirming continuous, close, wide-ranging cooperation with the Southeast Asian country.
Earlier on the same day, Indonesian Defence Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro with Australian counterpart Stephen Smith held talks on ADSD process and ways to boost bilateral defence cooperation.-VNA
