Jakarta (VNA) – Vietnamese delegates are joining those from ASEAN member nations, and countries in Asia Pacific at the Regional Conference on Digital Diplomacy (RCDD) in Jakarta, Indonesia on September 10-11.

Hosted by the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, the RCDD is the first conference on digital diplomacy held in the region.

In his opening speech, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi noted the importance of the implementation of RCDD, saying it serves as a forum for stakeholders in the region to discuss opportunities and challenges facing diplomacy in the digital era, and ways to use technologies in diplomacy to reach progress and mutual prosperity.

He said the RCDD will encourage future cooperation to narrow the technological and digital gap in the region, and offer an opportunity for all parties, including the private sector, to develop opportunities for cooperation in digital technology.

The regional conference agreed to adopt “The Jakarta Message on Regional Cooperation on Digital Diplomacy”, which recognises the importance of digital diplomacy, joint commitment in building messages, and digital diplomacy cooperation between relevant stakeholders, including an appeal for building a community free from false information.

The Jakarta message has been supplemented by an action plan for sustainable cooperation between the government, private sector and other stakeholders in building regional networks to step up utilisation of digital technology for diplomacy.

On the sidelines of the event, a digital technology exhibition is held with the participation of startups and other potential partners./.
