Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia always attaches importance to its cooperation with other ASEAN member countries and will work with them to boost the bloc’s development, said Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
Speaking at a seminar themed “Geo-political and Geo-economic Shift in Indo-Pacific Region and Indonesian Foreign Policy” on December 18, Marsudi stated that over the past 50 years, ASEAN proves to be one of the most successful multilateral organisations.
In the next five decades, member states should cooperate more closely to not only care for people’s lives but also ensure social welfare-related issues, she suggested.
In the economic affairs, many delegates agreed that the global economy is moving from west to east, which results in stronger economic cooperation and fiercer competition in the Indo-Pacific region.
The region’s development has brought about both opportunities and challenges for countries in the region.
The seminar was organised in Jakarta by the Adam Malik centre and the Indonesian Council on World Affairs.-VNA
