Indonesia has confirmed its first death from H1N1 flu after a six-year-old girl, who tested positive to the A/H1N1 virus died on July 22 in Jakarta.

The girl was admitted to hospital on July 19 with such flu symptoms as fever, coughs and respiratory problems and died three days later, Tjandra Yoga Aditama, director general of the ministry of health’s disease control and environmental hygiene division, said on July 25.

By July 25, the total number of people tested positive to the deadly virus in Indonesia had risen to 343, including 193 men and 150 women.

The country reported its first two cases of the flu on June 24.

The World Health Organisation’s latest figures show that A/H1N1 flu has spread to 160 countries, claiming 800 lives./.
