The Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in aquatic product processing.
Under the agreement, France will provide Indonesian exporters with necessary information to help them better approach this market.
It will also support Indonesia to organise seminars to promote the country’s aquatic products in France , and a forum to attract investment in this field.
Indonesian Minister Sharif C.Sutardjo said that the direct partnership between the two offices will boost Indonesian processors to make products with higher quality.
According to statistics from the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, the country’s export revenue to France increased from 31.6 million USD in 2011 to 43.4 million USD in 2013.
Last year, it pocketed nearly 4 billion USD from shipping aquatic products abroad. Its main markets are the US , Japan and the European Union.
The fisheries sector contributed over 25.7 billion USD to the State budget in 2013, representing a year-on-year of 14.3 percent.-VNA
