Indonesia: Green investment hoped to create 4.4 million new jobs

Jakarta (VNA) - Green investment in the circular economic
system will create 4.4 million new job opportunities in Indonesia by 2030, according
to an official from the Indonesian Ministry
of National Development Planning.
Speaking at a webinar on the transition to a green economy, Medrilzam, Director for Environmental Affairs at
the National Development Planning Agency under the ministry said if the Southeast Asian nation implements the circular economy properly, up to
4.4 million new job opportunities will be created, with around 75 percent available for women.
Apart from creating job opportunities, the
green investment scheme within the circular economic system will increase the
national gross domestic product (GDP) to 593 trillion Rp (40.91 billion USD) to
638 trillion Rp (44.02 billion USD) by 2030, he stated.
The circular economy has the potential to boost
Indonesia’s GDP to an average of 600 trillion Rp (41.4 billion USD),
Medrilzam noted.
It will also help reduce 126 million tonnes of CO2 and 18 – 52 percent of production
waste as compared to the percentage of waste produced if no shift to the
green economy was adopted, the director stressed./.
