A total of 203 natural disasters hit Indonesia in January, killing 178 people.

According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the disasters, ranging from landslides, flash floods, flooding and volcano eruptions, forced 1.2 million others to evacuate.

The largest number of evacuees was from North Sulawesi, and the funds needed to carry out rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts was estimated to reach almost 2 trillion Rp (164 million USD), according to Head of BNPB’s Information Data Affairs, Sutopo Purwo.-VNA
