Indonesia ’s State Logistics Agency (Bulog) signed a contract with the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) to purchase 200,000 tonnes of Vietnamese rice.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, along with almost 100 representatives of Vietnamese and Indonesian businesses, participated in the signing ceremony as part of their meeting in Jakarta on September 23.
According to the Deputy Minister, both countries agreed to a number of cooperation measures to boost bilateral trade more effectively, including the trade of rice, farm produce and seafood.
In the near future, relevant agencies will identify policy measures that act as technical barriers to bilateral trade, in line with the two countries’ respective international commitments.
On September 22, the Vietnamese official held talks with his Indonesian counterpart Bayu Krisnamurthy. They agreed to boost cooperation on trade and the global supply chain, and proposed measures to capture the full potential of each country’s agriculture and aquaculture sector.
Deputy Minister Tran Tuan Anh said the growing number of bilateral agreements between the two countries meant the bilateral trade targets of 5 billion USD by 2015 and 10 billion USD in 2018 are realistically achievable.
Indonesia is the fourth largest Southeast Asian trade partner of Vietnam . Last year, trade increased by 4.8 percent and totaled over 4.8 billion USD. During the first eight months of this year, the respective figures were 13.4 percent, and 3.3 billion USD.
The leaders agreed to promote the two countries’ bilateral relations to a strategic partnership, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister said.-VNA
