The campaign aims to recycle at least 20 percent of the total waste volume in 2019 through activities of reducing, reusing and recycling (3R) and cut the greenhouse gas emission from waste by six percent by 2020.
At the launching ceremony, Minister of Environment Balthazar Kambuaya highlighted the importance of environmental protection to climate change, especially in the context of the country’s booming population and high economic growth.
Indonesia, the world’s fourth largest country by population size with over 240 million people, is producing 130,000 tonnes of waste per day.
The Government has built 336 3R waste treatment facilities since 2010 in an effort to develop environmental protection projects.-VNA
