Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O’Neill witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements on May 12.

The signed agreements address joint efforts in the fight against cross-border crimes such as drug trafficking and terrorism and human resources development for the oil and energy sectors.

The pair will also boost trade at border markets, promote investment and cooperation in infrastructure development and encourage private business involvement in energy, telecommunications and fisheries.

Additionally, flights will also be introduced on the Port Moresby-Denpasar-Jakarta and Port Moresby-Singapore-Jakarta routes to bolster connectivity between the two sides.

At the ceremony, President Joko Widodo highlighted that Indonesia and Papua New Guinea could further their cooperation for mutual benefit.
